I didn’t post yesterday, we spent most of the day on the boat and in the early evening a nasty storm went though. And, in case you didn’t know, Starlink had a global outage yesterday afternoon, grrrrr. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But after the storm went through the sun and sunset didn’t disappoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the Peterborough lift lock. You saw the pictures the other day but being in it, wow, what an experience. In essence, the lock has two huge concrete bathtubs on each side measuring 120 feet long and 32 feet wide. Both sides are filled with water but the upper side has a foot more water than the lower. This difference is an amazing 131 tons. Gravity then takes over and causes the upper chamber to come down forcing the lower chamber to come up. The lock opened in 1904 and is still going strong today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just beyond the Peterborough lock is Trent University. Apparently this university excels at pretty much everything and continues to rank at the top of Canadian undergraduate studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I guess all lock stations compete for bragging rights about how nice their grounds are kept and unique yard art. This fun sign was made out of old lift lock wood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At one of the locks today we were delayed for a medial emergency. Sadly one captains (not in our group) was having heart troubles so the lock was at a standstill for over an hour. Doug took the time to let CJ out and play around in the grass. Sheesh, I hope he’s not rolling in goose poop. Anyhow, please pray for him and his family. They transported him to the hospital by ambulance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before the gates opened at our last lock of the day these folks scurried across the top carrying their surf board or maybe their paddle board. Was kind of funny watching them hustle across with that big thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So with all of the locks and delays, it took us almost 9 hours to go 16 miles today and we were pooped. Fortunately there’s a restaurant onsite that serves Poutine. We just have to get more Poutine. I think the fries and gravy are what make a good poo-teen, after all we’re experts now that we’ve had it twice, ha ha, Doug gets a fancy burger and I get a club.
