Another good day with lots of locks behind them! Leaving Campbellford they got to a set of double locks 11 and 12. They are back to back locks with an average height of 48 feet! As you can see from the picture, one down, one to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the locks have swing bridges associated with them. When boats go through, it’s a lot like a train, cross hatches come down and cars have to stop and wait while the bridge lifts or swings out of the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are always things to keep an eye on when driving the boat. In addition to making sure you are on course, you have to look at your depth and other things in the waterway. Watching out for other boats in a narrow channel is not much fun but there are also hidden items lurking just below the surface that can “getcha” too. We know all to well about rocks, but there are also weeds, stumps and logs that must be maneuvered around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally the last lock for them to go through on the Trent Severn Waterway, lock 1. They’ve gone through 31 locks in 3 days, quite an accomplishment. The marina is just around the corner, then it will be time relax!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They made it just fine to Trent Port Marina and after getting settled it looks like it was time to relax with some Kawartha Ice Cream. Did I say relax? Oh yeah, ice cream is the way to settle down after a very long day. The word on the street is that Kawartha ice cream is excellent and judging by John’s smile, I think it’s true!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After some dinner and planning for tomorrow, it’s time to get some shut eye, but not before admiring God’s beauty with a stunning sunset!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tomorrow’s itinerary is to get across Lake Ontario to Oswego. This will put them in the United States again, yay! Please pray for safety during the crossing and no hassles checking into border control. Also, lock 22 on the Erie Canal is down for repairs. Please pray that it will get fixed quickly, today if possible, so they can continue their journey home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
