We just love our scooters!

We talked over what fun we would have today and we both agreed we should go to the Cape May Airport Aviation Museum. It’s about a 3 1/2 mile scooter trip and boy was it fun. Most of the way reminded us of the trail on the Raleigh Greenway.

Our first stop??? If you guessed get some food, you are correct. The Flight Deck Restaurant is good, I got a cheeseburger and fries (the fries were spectacular). We get there at lunch and order, but then we learn that they serve breakfast all day. We sit at the counter across from the kitchen and watch everyone order breakfast. Oh man, if we get back there for food, we’re going to get breakfast! There was even a guest appearance by flying ace Doug White!

There was a Navy base at Cape May for 2 years during WWII. It was called NAS Wildwood and they trained dive bomber pilots. If you see the inlet on the lower right hand side, that’s the harbor were we’re staying. We came through the Cape May canal on the Delaware Bay (left) side and came out in the harbor. Although the marina wasn’t built yet, it’s on the right just after exiting the canal.

They had a nice Coast Guard display. This helicopter is huge!

There were a bunch of planes on display, but my favorite was the T28. Although the one above says Marines, my Dad trained young Navy pilots to fly at NAS Corpus Christi using T28’s.

My own private helicopter!! Actually, I’m really surprised I even fit. Truth be told, Doug had to help me get out, giggle giggle.

On occasion, the museum has special displays. We were happy to learn there was a traveling D-day exhibit on display that was created for the 80th anniversary of D-day; 80 years and the 80 day Battle of Normandy before the allies got to liberate Paris. There are 80 diorama displays that are crocheted from wool. The entire project was created to honor Cape May native Harry Kulkowitz. The attention to detail and the chronology is beyond words. Lookup online “The Longest Yarn” and “A Thread Through History” as my pictures don’t do it justice at all.

While we were out having fun, our friend Val took CJ for a walk and swim. Looks like he’s having fun too! Val was nice enough to give him a bath also. Now he smells good and his fur is nice and soft!
