So today we decided to split up and do things separately. Me and Val went for a nice, long walk and Doug and Tom went to get boat supplies. Me and Val walked through the Coast Guard living quarters and ended up down by the beach front. We saw some flowers in the gravel on the boardwalk and they turned out to be cactus flowers. Very pretty and unexpected for New Jersey.

We saw this house on the waterfront and learned that at some point it was a rental. As part of the rental agreement people were required to dress up the cement dogs out front. I guess there were all sorts of costumes; tuxedos, prom dresses, capes; ha ha ha.

We walked so much, SURPRISE!, we got hungry and stopped at Tommy’s hot dogs. It’s a very popular eatery that’s been a family business since 1933. I’m not sure if the guy in the hot dog hat is part of the family but he should be. What a hoot, that guy took the food to every customer and greeted them with a friendly smile and kind words. When he brought out our food he was complimenting the hot dog choice; it was the hot dog, chili, crunchy onions, cheese and “secret sauce.” He liked the combination so much he thought maybe they would put it on the menu next year. Val declared he should name it “The Laura”. I don’t think that’s a bad idea at all!

We happened to see a peanut butter shop on the way back to the boat and just had to stop; I adore peanut butter. We both got gigantic cookies, very yummy! As you can see, CJ got in the act. He’s such a good sport and everyone had to give him pets which he adored.

The other day we got a grill for the boat and tried it out tonight. Tom and Val came over; we cooked steaks, Val brought sauteed peppers and onions and seasoned rice. Turned out pretty good for out first try! Good food and great company; the best way to end our day.
