So we checked a few things off the list today. It was a little windy and in the upper 80’s, so it was a perfect day to finish up a few things before we head to the Erie Canal in the morning. Checked off the list: laundry, measure the height of the boat (don’t want to hit any bridges), de-cluttered the inside of the boat, changed the filters on the other engine, got the dinghy ready for travel and got our bigger fenders ready for the locks. It was a pretty productive day. One of the looper couples is organizing a cookout of brats and chicken for dinner. Everyone else is bringing sides, snacks and desserts. As we head over to the picnic area we see this huge barge heading south on the Hudson. For such a large vessel it didn’t put off much of a wake, thankfully. Yes, we’re turning into boat snobs, ha ha ha.

The dinner was delicious with sides of roasted potatoes, potato salad and coleslaw. There were lots of snacks and desserts, but most of all it was fun (again) just chatting with fellow loopers. It’s a great group of people, everyone is helpful, full of advice and tonight we learned how to tie knots. Don’t laugh, tying good knots is very important, especially if you want your boating equipment to stay on the boat.

If you noticed in the picture before this one, the place mat under my plate was made by hand by the lady who was hosting the meal. Each part of the place mat shows the name of most of the water ways of the Great Loop. She gave one to each family, a really nice memento!

Just as we were finishing up dinner another big boat came by. It looked like a small cruise ship. So we had BIG watercraft before dinner and after. Oh, we also got to watch sheriff boats give tickets to boats and jet skis going to fast by the marina; it’s a no wake zone.
We will shove off tomorrow morning and head to Schenectady. We had originally thought we would stop in Albany, but it looks like there might be storms Tuesday so we’re going to skip it and go straight to Schenectady. Oh, by the way, the marina is after lock 7 of the Erie Canal. Yay!!! We’ll probably stay at the marina for about a week.
