It was a good day to travel. We went 43.8 nautical miles and through 8 locks. It was a hot day and we stopped short of our destination by 3 locks. Lock 16 and 17 were the trouble locks that delayed the opening of the Erie Canal. Lock 16, our next lock, only operates on even hours and lock 17 on the odd hours. We just missed getting in to lock 16 but that’s okay, tomorrow is another day.

More interesting bridges along the way today. But in between small towns, there isn’t much to see. Don’t get me wrong, the waterway is pretty and the woods on the edge of the canal are nice but when it’s hot, all you care about is getting to your destination.

There seem to be quite a lot of run down abandoned factories and commercial buildings on the canal also. This is the old Adirondack Power and Light building. I liked that it was so close to the water and I wondered if the smaller attached building on the right could have been an employee break room.

Neither one of us is interested in cooking, and found out that only one place “in town” is open (the rest are closed because of the holiday weekend). We call and find that they will deliver to the marina; even better. Forgot to get pictures but I get a grilled chicken salad and Doug gets wings. After we finish eating we take CJ for a nice long walk around the campground that’s part of the marina. The picture above was taken from an empty camp site, the entire complex is on the Erie Canal. You can’t really tell, but the white spot in the lower right of the picture is a reflection of the moon.
We’ll head out in the morning to try and make the 8:00am opening at lock 16. Thanks for all of the prayers for safe travels, we really felt them today. Hope our church family is doing well, we really miss you. For all of my walking friends, I miss you guys also.
