We leave Hastings around 8 to try and make it to Peterborough before the wind starts to kick up. We start off by going through a narrow (did I say narrow?) channel that’s been cut out of a railroad swing bridge. Doug gets us through just fine and one of our buddy boats Miss Peaches gets a great shot of us going through.

So it was a twisty turny ride today going through lots of small small towns and developments. We round one turn and this guy looks at us and proceeds to put his RC boat in the water and starts across the river right in front of us. We almost squashed his little boat. What in the world was he thinking? What’s the saying? Things that make you go hmmmm.

It was an interesting ride today. Remember we left early to get to the marina before the wind? Well, that didn’t quite work out. One of our buddy boats (Unbridled) blew an oil hose and had to shut down one of his engines (fortunately it’s repairable). So we were delayed a little from that and by the time we got to Peterborough it was a bit windy. Well, as we started to dock, the port (left for you landlubbers) throttle lever broke and Doug couldn’t get the engine out of reverse. He quickly shut that engine down and we got docked safely, but it was a little touch and go for a while. There is a nice park behind the marina with a ginormous fountain in front. We are extending our stay to at least 2 days, maybe 3.

We walk to dinner and we pass several really interesting things. The clocktower was designed by John Belcher, the town’s engineer, was built in 1889. It’s the only remaining piece of the tower building remaining after they redesigned the area in 2011. The door above is attached to the historic Bell Telephone Exchange building. The building housed telephone switching equipment in the late 1930’s. It looks like the inlays on the door are copper. And no, the lock on the door is NOT period correct, ha ha.

After trying a couple of other places that were either closed or had a long wait, we decide on Mexican for dinner. The food was great, we ate outside and left stuffed.

So here’s a testament to the good group of boating folks that are a part of the AGLCA (America’s Great Loop Cruiser’s Association). As I was working on the blog entry for today I get a text with this picture from a friend we met on the Hudson River. The funny thing, she is already 3 locks ahead of us tonight. She got the picture from a friend of hers that’s at our marina and she decided to send it to us. The world just keeps getting smaller.
Anyhow, we’re here, we’re safe and nothing got damaged today. So, it was a good day. We’ll stay here at least until Thursday and possibly Friday weather dependent.
Oh, I forgot to tell you, we only went through 1 lock today and boy was that entertainment. They rent boats in Peterborough for folks to travel the same water way we are on and the rental companies don’t care if you have ANY boating experience. One of the rental companies is called Le Boat. Well this guy in his rented Le Boat got sideways in the lock and almost got stuck. By the time I got my camera it was too late. Rats, that would have been a good picture.
