First, an update on our props and thrusters. Doug did some deep diagnosing and found that the thruster batteries failed a load test and needed to be replaced. So he got a set of 4 new batteries ordered from a local battery dealer and they were nice enough to deliver them to the marina, we’ll get those installed today. The boat was hauled out and the props, shafts, bearings and struts were all inspected. The props are dinged up and sent to a local prop shop for repair. The prop shop said It looks like they have been repaired at least once before and they won’t know if they can be repaired again until they have a thorough inspection and measurements. We hope to hear back from the prop shop today if they can be repaired or if they must be replaced. In any case, we will be stuck here in Bobcaygeon Ontario for at least a week. The best news is that the shafts, bearings and struts are all good!

Since we’re going to be here a while we decide to get a rental car and see what the area has to offer. We toured around Lindsey. Lindsey is the city where we got the car and walked around the town and had lunch. While we were walking, Doug points out a monument that contains an eternal flame. If you zoom in and read the plaque, the city put a time capsule inside it in 2020 and will be opened and rededicated this year.

So on another sad note, my health has been in a slow decline for about 3 -4 weeks now. Doug and I have been unable to determine the cause or make things better. I am experiencing balance issues, nausea, loss of appetite, sleep deprivation and general stress/anxiety. This trip, although it started out being fun and exciting, recently, it has turned into a stressful journey having to constantly be on the lookout for rocks, stumps, debris in the water and most importantly shallow waters in narrow channels. After much prayer, tears and discussion we both agree that it would be best for my health for me to get off the boat and return home. We are still working out the details, but our current plan is for Doug to drive me home with our rental car and take my brother John back with him to help with the boat and head for home. Please pray for safe travels for us home and for Doug and John back to the boat. Also continue to pray for Doug and John as they travel back to Virginia.
With all of the stresses, we have had an incredible journey and experienced many wonderful things. Like so many other “journey’s” it’s been the people we’ve met along they way that will be the most memorable. I’ll try to post something short when I get home to let you know we made it back safely.
Although I won’t be aboard anymore and not posting to this blog, you can continue to follow Doug and John’s progress by following the Garmin link:
