Travel day number 9 – Delaware City, DE to Cape May, NJ

We traversed the Delaware Bay today, what an adventure. The day started out kind of hazy and we went past the Salem Nuclear Power Plant. It sure was big!

It’s not long before we see our first big commercial ship. This one is a barge being pushed by a tug. But take a look at those fenders! They need a crane to lower and raise them!

Another fun ship we saw was this one powered by propane. It was really moving along, 15mph.

We pass this abandoned lighthouse but still serves as an aid to navigation by blowing the creepy horn. Full of birds and who knows what.

Here’s a better picture, looks like something right out of the Wizard of Oz. I’m certain there are flying monkeys in there somewhere.

We arrive in Cape May and find that many of our Looper friends are there. A dinner is arranged at a place called Lucky Bones. Really good food and even better company. There were 20 folks there and about half are headed north early tomorrow. We’ll stay at least until Monday. Then, weather permitting, we’ll head to somewhere around Atlantic City.
